Divorce

Silence
Streams between us
Like gold chains on a hooker’s neck
I sit
And stare at you
Find no words to say
I sit and stare at you
This man I married
And have nothing to say

Silence hangs heavy between us
Like velvet curtains in an old dusty mansion
All harsh words have been said
No more words are left
There are no more words to say

Silence sits between us
A glowering old man uncomfortable in his skin
The children are glum
Nothing is sure
And there are no words to say

Silence flits between us
Like an evil gnome at a wedding feast
The lawyer shuffles notes,
We sign papers
It’s over in seconds
And there are no words to say
